Tools that live in a vehicle are subjected to a specific set of abuses: hours of vibration, sudden braking, exposure to fuel and oil, and being stacked under other loads. A case that works well in a workshop can rattle itself apart in a van within a season.

Stopping the Rattle
Rattle is not just annoyance — it is the audible sign that contents are moving and wearing. It is fixed at the interior, not the shell:
- Tight cavity fit on each tool, so nothing shifts under vibration.
- Restrained lids and compartments, so small parts cannot migrate.
- Soft-touch contact points where metal would otherwise strike the shell.
- Weight distribution that keeps heavy items low and close to the handle.

Chemical Resistance
Workshop fluids are hard on plastics. Oils, greases, fuels, brake fluids and cleaning solvents affect different polymers differently, and the damage is not always immediate — some materials craze or soften over repeated contact. Check chemical compatibility for the fluids the kit will realistically meet, and specify a liner that can be wiped clean rather than one that absorbs.
Fitting the Vehicle
Measure the actual space — wheel arch, under-seat, drawer height, tailgate opening — before choosing a case, and consider how the case will be secured. A case that has to be lifted from an awkward position every time will eventually be left behind, which is the real failure mode of vehicle kits.
