Quick answer: An ABS waterproof equipment box passes on four counts, not one IP number: density 1.04 to 1.06 g/cm³, Vicat softening at least 96 °C, O-ring compression 20 to 30 percent, and flash no thicker than 0.15 mm. Each figure needs a test method, or the certificate means nothing.

1. How to Layer the Inspection Items
A 200 × 150 × 80 mm ABS waterproof equipment box crosses five gates from pellets to carton; failures usually trace to a skipped gate.
Gates: incoming material, first article, patrol, final inspection, type testing. The first four run on every lot; the fifth is periodic and cannot be waived by a datasheet.
| Gate | Object | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming | ABS pellets | Grade, density, MFI |
| Patrol | 5 parts per 2 hours | Appearance, latch force |
| Final | Assembled box | Fit, torque, air decay |
| Type | Complete box | Spray, immersion |
Only the last gate destroys parts, so type-test samples are molded apart; a new mold, pellet grade or gasket supplier restarts it.
2. Verifying the ABS Compound
An ABS waterproof equipment box may carry heavy regrind, or be HIPS underneath. Density, Vicat and melt flow index settle it.
| Property | Accept limit | Sampling |
|---|---|---|
| Density | 1.04 to 1.06 g/cm³ | Every lot, immersion |
| Vicat softening | Not below 96 °C | 10 N load |
| Melt flow index | 8 to 20 g/10 min at 220 °C | Every lot |
| Regrind ratio | 15 percent maximum | Declaration |
Density near 1.03 g/cm³ means PP or excess calcium carbonate; above 1.07 g/cm³ points to filler overload. Regrind past 15 percent weakens weld lines.
Vicat separates ABS from HIPS, which softens near 80 °C. Run 10 N with a 50 °C per hour ramp; beside a heat source, that gap decides whether the wall sags. Wet pellets leave voids under the groove, so dry at 80 °C for four hours.
3. Judging Molded Part Appearance
No visible defects in a purchase order guarantees an argument. Name each defect, fix the condition, set a limit.
| Defect | Condition | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Sink mark | 300 mm, daylight | 0.3 mm deep, none on front |
| Weld line | Same | Visible, not whitened, 0.1 mm |
| Flash | Caliper | 0.15 mm at parting line |
On an ABS waterproof equipment box, sink marks gather behind bosses; any wall ratio beyond 2:1 invites them. A mark on the groove floor changes depth and compression.
The 0.15 mm flash limit protects the groove lip, where flash shims the O-ring and cuts compression by a fifth. Such a box passes a spray check and weeps two months later.
4. Seal Geometry and Cable Glands
Three numbers carry the seal on an ABS waterproof equipment box: groove depth, cord diameter and closing force. A 3.0 mm nitrile cord in a 2.2 mm groove 3.6 mm wide lands at 26.7 percent compression.
The lip needs a 0.3 mm radius; a square edge shears the cord, and the cut only shows at teardown. Hold Ra 1.6.
On M16 or M20 glands check 2.5 N·m torque, no rolled gasket, and a plug plus backing plate on unused holes. Cam latches close at 60 to 90 N, within 15 N side to side; the loose side leaks first.
5. Water Testing and Batch Sampling
An ABS waterproof equipment box gets IPX4 spray at 10 L/min for 5 minutes per face, then IPX7 at 1 m for 30 minutes. Spray first: it opens gaps that immersion then exposes.
Air decay at 20 kPa for 60 seconds catches a missing gasket but cannot replace IPX7.
| Lot size | Sample | Major Ac/Re | Minor Ac/Re |
|---|---|---|---|
| 151 to 280 | 32 | 2/3 | 3/4 |
| 281 to 500 | 50 | 3/4 | 5/6 |
| 501 to 1200 | 80 | 5/6 | 7/8 |
Sampling follows GB/T 2828.1, level II, AQL 2.5 major and 4.0 minor. Three retention samples per lot sit 12 months, marked with packing date and batch.
Conclusion
Acceptance works when promises become repeatable numbers. Density, Vicat, flash, compression, spray duration and AQL give a supplier something to check and a buyer something to reject against. Fix them, and lot-to-lot consistency of an ABS waterproof equipment box stops depending on who stands at the line.
