Quick answer: Private label protective cases rarely fail on shape. They fail five pages later, on process tolerance, color control, carton marking, barcode legibility and label placement. Each page needs a number and a test method.

1. Where the Spec Book for Private Label Protective Cases Begins
A spec book for private label protective cases runs eight to twelve pages. The last five carry process, color, packing, marking and labels, which decide whether the brand lands on the case.
One test separates a clause from a wish: a third party must be able to check it. Registration within plus or minus 0.3 mm is a clause, clean printing is not.
| Clause group | What to state | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Process | position, registration tolerance | caliper, 10x loupe |
| Color | system, batch spread, gloss | spectrophotometer |
| Packing | box grade, stack layers, mark height | tape, stack test |
| Barcode | symbology, magnification, quiet zone | verifier |
| Label | datum edge, tolerance, bubble limit | limit samples |
2. Screen Print Hot Stamp and Nameplate Tolerances
Screen printing is the cheapest way to place a brand and the easiest to spoil: one screen per color, registration at plus or minus 0.3 mm, minimum line 0.25 mm, no type under 3 mm. Rotomolded shells shrink unevenly, stretching artwork across a corner by one to two percent.
Hot stamping runs at 110 to 130 degrees Celsius and 0.3 to 0.5 MPa, foil sunk no deeper than 0.15 mm; too deep leaves a pale stress ring where the shell cracks. Nameplates are 0.8 mm aluminium on acrylic foam, with four 3.2 mm rivet holes for cold-climate orders, where adhesive loses thirty percent of peel strength at minus 20 degrees Celsius.
3. Color Codes and the Delta E Line
For private label protective cases, specify color as a system: Pantone 19-0417 TCX, plus gloss at 5 to 10 units, texture and the permitted spread.
Judge on Delta E: 1.0 within a batch, 1.5 between batches, 2.0 for metallic finishes where flake orientation makes readings jump. Fix the conditions, D65, 10 degree observer, 8 mm aperture, three readings.
| Item | Within batch | Between batches | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid matte | Delta E 1.0 max | Delta E 1.5 max | D65, 10 degree |
| Metallic | Delta E 1.5 max | Delta E 2.0 max | three-point average |
Each side keeps a signed 60 mm chip, dark and flat; a chip left on a windowsill ends every color clause.
4. Carton Marks Barcodes and Compliance Badges
Packing clauses for private label protective cases decide whether the shipment is identifiable at the dock: BC double wall, six layers for 24 hours, no set deeper than 5 mm.
Carton marks state faces, character height and color: two faces, 20 mm characters, the block 50 mm below the lid line. Buyer templates stay vector, never auto-fitted.
EAN-13 runs at 0.8 to 1.2 magnification with 3.63 mm quiet zones and 22 mm bar height, and first-read rate on corrugated is measured at 95 percent or better. Compliance marks follow the destination, CE at 5 mm minimum height.
5. Label Placement Tolerance and First Article Sign Off
Write label tolerance against a datum: from the lower left corner of the front face, 60 mm plus or minus 2 mm across and 25 mm up, skew under one degree.
Below 10 degrees Celsius or above 70 percent humidity, 24-hour peel falls to half of 6 N/25mm; winter orders warm cases for four hours or use low-temperature adhesive.
| Item | Deliverable | Pass line |
|---|---|---|
| Process | print and foil sheet | 0.3 mm registration |
| Color | three signed chips | Delta E 1.0 max |
| Packing | 24 hour stack record | set 5 mm max |
| Barcode | first-read report | 95 percent |
| Label | three limit samples | three bubbles max |
Limit samples, good, borderline and reject, carry the rest: three bubbles maximum, none over 1 mm, no wrinkle across a character.
Conclusion
Private label protective cases are decided on the pages that describe how a brand is applied, not the drawing of the shape. Process tolerance decides whether a mark reads, color codes whether two batches look like one order, carton marks and barcodes whether the shipment is identified at the dock. Put a number behind each group, and private label protective cases stop being a matter of opinion.
