Quick answer: Run 5 checks first: 8 cycles a year, items over 40 kg, batches over 30 units, spares for 5 years, tag control. Break 2 and the dedicated case stops paying; each alternative below gets its price band and its exit condition.

1. Five Checks Before You Commit

Prices separate fast. A dedicated case sits at 1,480 CNY, a general rotomolded box at 620 CNY and a plywood export crate at 180 CNY, a factor of 8. What that gap buys is re-use cycles and traceability, not wall thickness, so count cycles first.

The 5 checks are: 8 or more cycles a year, items over 40 kg, batches over 30 units, spares for 5 years, and tag control. Break 2 of them and the cost structure stops working.

Batch size is the check people misread. Under 30 units the 26,000 CNY tooling cannot be spread, and a run of 20 carries 1,300 CNY each.

2. Steel Welded Cases Only Pay Above 60 kg

Steel runs 85 kg empty with a 3 mm wall at 3,400 CNY, 2.3 times the dedicated case. What it offers is repairability: change a hinge pin, weld a patch, and 50 cycles is where the premium flattens out.

Aluminium removes 39% of that weight at 52 kg, but needs a 4 mm wall to hold stiffness, costs 2,900 CNY and distorts once repaired. By air at 22 CNY per kg, 33 kg less is 726 CNY a trip.

The line sits at 60 kg. Above it, with fewer than 8 cycles a year and a welder on site, steel wins. Between 30 and 60 kg for air freight, aluminium wins. Under 30 kg, neither: go back to a moulded case.

3. Where a One-Way Plywood Crate Wins

An 18 mm plywood crate with 2 steel bands costs 180 CNY, ships in 7 days and needs no fumigation. It wins in exactly 2 cases: batches of 10 or fewer, or a single one-way shipment.

Storage is the weak point. At 60% humidity, plywood climbs from 8% to 14% moisture in 24 months and starts to delaminate at the corners. Getting to 3 years takes a 0.1 mm foil bag and 25 g of desiccant, another 40 CNY.

Stacking stops at 2 tiers. A third tier sags the bottom lid 4 mm in 90 days and the bands go slack.

4. Five Boundaries Between General and Dedicated

A general box gives 800 × 600 × 400 mm of cavity, a 4 mm wall, 12 kg and 620 CNY. The dedicated type is built to the item: 6 mm wall, 31 kg, 1,480 CNY. The extra 860 CNY buys 4 things — support points, sealing, status reading and stack stiffness.

Displacement settles it. Foam allows 5 mm after clamping and 6 mm after one drop; a cradle seated on the flange stops at 1.5 mm.

Under 3 cycles a year, below 25 kg, with 5 mm of movement accepted, a general box with cut foam is enough. Break any 1 of those 3 and the dedicated type starts to pay.

Conclusion

Choosing is arithmetic on cycles, not a contest of wall thickness. 8 cycles, 40 kg and 30 units fence the dedicated type into a narrow band; outside it, a Missile Warhead Container is simply the expensive answer.
