Quick answer: A quotation breakdown keeps tooling and samples on one-off lines and prices the case per unit; seven lines must name the payer and the amortisation base.

1. Two clocks behind one price

A 62 L case carries three numbers: 96,000 CNY for the mould, 3,600 CNY for samples, 168 CNY per case at the 6,000-unit tier. Buyers attack the third first, then find the others decide whether it compares at all.

Tooling and samples are paid once, before a saleable case exists; the unit price repeats with every shipment. Keeping those clocks apart is the point: folding a one-off into a per-case figure moves risk, and risk carries a price.

The threshold is workable: any outlay above 100 times the unit price (16,800 CNY here) that cannot be recovered case by case earns its own line. Here the mould, modifications, sample rounds and checking fixture clear it; packing consumables do not.

One plant folded its 96,000 CNY tool into the price and quoted 200 CNY for 3,000 cases; a rival quoted 172 CNY, and the 28 CNY gap owed nothing to resin or cycle time.

2. Mould: three ways to pay

Name the payer. Buyer pays in full: 96,000 CNY settled separately, no amortisation. Split 50/50: 48,000 CNY upfront, balance after a passed trial, 9.6 CNY per case over 5,000. Supplier carries it: 19.2 CNY per case until recovered.

Milestones run 30 / 60 / 10 — before steel, after a passed trial, after 500 saleable cases. A modification costs 8,000–15,000 CNY; two sit inside the tool price, the third is invoiced. Three trials are free, then 1,800 CNY each.

Tool life is written at 100,000 shots, which puts the mould at 0.96 CNY a shot. That is cost accounting; 19.2 CNY is recovery. Mixing the two is how a third modification arrives as an 8,000 CNY surprise.

3. Samples: refundable means offsettable

The 3,600 CNY splits into 1,200 of sampling labour, 480 of material, 900 of CNC-cut foam, 320 of freight and 700 of inspection. Nothing returns as cash; the credit lands on the first invoice, which is why the threshold matters more than the headline.

At 2,000 cases the full amount is offset; between 800 and 1,999, half, or 1,800 CNY; below 800, nothing. A line reading only “refundable” will be argued over at 1,800 cases, where the two readings differ by 1,800 CNY. Extra rounds cost 1,200–2,400 CNY including one sample, then 480 CNY a piece beyond three, and need their own line.

4. Unit price: pick an amortisation base

Recover over 5,000 cases and the tool adds 19.2 CNY. Over two years at 12,000 a year, 24,000 in total, it adds 4.0 CNY. Recover nothing and the line reads 0 CNY, with the tool invoiced separately.

The widest gap is 19.2 CNY, 11.4% of a 168 CNY price. On 3,000 cases the 5,000-base gives 187.2 CNY and 561,600 CNY total; the two-year base gives 172 CNY and 516,000 CNY, with 4.0 CNY on every case for two years.

Termination is the line most quotes omit. Recover over 5,000, collect 3,000, stop: the balance is 96,000 × (1 − 3,000 ÷ 5,000) = 38,400 CNY, settled or bought out at 70%, or 26,880 CNY.

5. The last four lines

The ladder decides how much gets argued about for two years: 800 / 2,500 / 6,000 cases at 176 / 171 / 168 CNY, steps of 4.5% and 1.7%. Write “168 CNY at the 6,000-case tier”, never “from 168 CNY”.

Packing costs 4.2 CNY a case: 0.6 bag, 1.1 edge protectors, 1.9 five-ply carton, 0.6 labour. Protector gauge is what goes missing: 2.5 mm against 4 mm is 0.4 CNY a case, or 4,800 CNY across 12,000 cases.

Lead time is two figures: 38 days for a first order (15 tooling, 5 trial, 18 production), 24 days for a repeat. Validity is 30 days with a ±5% band, so 168 CNY covers 160–176 CNY, with one exchange-rate base date inside that window.

Conclusion

A quotation breakdown divides one page into three segments: tooling and samples once, the unit price per case. The 96,000 CNY tool and 3,600 CNY sample charge only compare once payer, credit threshold and amortisation base are attached. Seven complete lines and 30 days of validity save more over two years than 9 CNY off the price.
